Rock of Ages

Rock of Ages takes you back to the time of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair! This Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical features the hits of bands including Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and more.

It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strip’s last legendary venues, a place where sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock ’n’ roll fairy tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip – and themselves – before it’s too late?

Ready to turn it up to eleven? Orpheus Theatre is thrilled to invite performers ages 18+ of all experience levels to audition for Rock of Ages, the electrifying Broadway musical packed with powerhouse vocals, outrageous characters, and the greatest rock hits of the 1980s.

This is your chance to step into a world of big dreams, big hair, and even bigger guitar solos—and to be part of a high-energy production that celebrates rock ’n’ roll, love, and rebellion on the Sunset Strip.

GENERAL VOCAL AUDITION INFORMATION​

• Sing confidently and in character—this show is about rock style, energy, and storytelling.

• Auditioners may be asked to adjust tempo, style, or sing a portion again.

 

ENSEMBLE

• Ensemble members should demonstrate strong rhythm, pitch accuracy, and authentic rock vocal style.

• Energy and commitment are key.

 

FEMALE LEAD

• Sing all parts, including the Dennis and Lonny vocal lines. Auditioners should showcase vocal power,

• Range, confidence, and strong character choices.

 

MALE LEAD

• Song: Dead or Alive 0:30-1:13 (see spotify playlist)

• This selection should highlight rock vocal strength, control, and a bold, character-driven delivery.
